- Start today’s tour with a visit to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep – one of northern Thailand’s most sacred temples. It is about 15 kms from the city; 3,500 ft. above sea level and built in 1383. To reach the wat, take a tram car or walk up the Naga (dragon-headed serpent) staircase with more than 300 steps.
